Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Organizes Multimedia Master-Class Workshop

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication organized a Multimedia Master-Class Workshop for the Faculty alumni on November 6, 2021. The 4-hour workshop was conducted by Mr. Youssef Gamal, who is an expert in multimedia technologies as well as an MIU alumnus and a part time instructor at the Department of Mass Communication.


The Multimedia Master-Class provided the attendees with valuable information and advanced training in important software programs that are widely used in the media and advertising fields, including After Effects, Adobe Premier and Cinema 4D.

Attendees had the opportunity to understand the importance of the latest multimedia techniques used in the field and learned how to professionally use those techniques.  They included a variety of techniques, such as Chroma, work flow tips, and clients’ requests management.  

On-Campus workshop on keys to more effective tests

Misr International University is trying to provide its staff with the most updated methods in every aspect of teaching. Thus, a workshop was conducted by Professor Dr. Maha Fathy, acting Vice Dean of the Faculty of Alsun, aiming at the standardization and evaluation of exam questions. The participants discussed the criteria of a good exam and methods of evaluation. The workshop was held on the 29th of March, 2016 with the attendance of the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine staff.



MIU Theater Presents Second Play, “The Room” at Hosapeare Theater

MIU Theater and the affiliated Mass Media Club presented its second show “The Room” at Hosapeare Theater on Monday November 1, 2021.  The show was directed by Mahmoud El Hedeeny.

“The Room” is a science fiction play written by Mahmoud El Hedeeny and performed by the MIU theatre team under the supervision of Dr. Nevine Aboulawafi, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication.

MIU Theater which presented its first play “Blue ghosts” at El Nahar theatre in 2019,  was established three years ago to boost and enhance the acting, directing, and script writing skills of MIU students. The theater also helps talented students find a starting point in the field of theatre and film making.

MCM Honors Students at Annual Achievement Day

Mass Communication students were honored for their accomplishments during the MCM Achievement Day on October 15th.
The Achievement Day was held in order to honor students of all years for their achievements and their hard work in the year 2018-2019. The event honored students for their GPA scores, their community service and their Graduation Projects.
The fourth iteration of the annual Achievement Day was hosted by The Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun & Mass Communication, Dr. Laila Galal, and Mass Communication Department Head Dr. Amany Bassyouny, who each gave welcome speeches at the beginning of the day. The event was organized by Teaching Assistant Heba Rashed and presented by Teaching Assistants Menna Soliman and Hatem Selim.
Students are given the opportunity to send in any notable achievements that they have personally accomplishment via email, and a small selection of students are then chosen and honored for their work through this event.
The event started at 1:40 p.m. with Dr. Laila Galal and Dr. Amany Bassyouny giving welcome speeches to the students. Dr. Amany spoke of MIU’s humble beginnings during her speech, noting that the very first graduate class of the Mass Communication consisted of 9 students. As Dr. Amany reflected on her years in MIU, she stated that the she has learned from her students, whether it be through their work or their perspectives. She also congratulated them for their achievements.
“You have accomplished things you, yourself did not think was possible for you to accomplish,” said Bassyouny.
Following the welcome speeches, the presenters went on to honor the students with the highest GPAs from each school year, then went on to honor students who for their community services.
“It feels rewarding to feel appreciated for your work and effort even if you don’t do it for recognition,” said Nahed Anis, one of the recipients of this honor. “It is important that the university recognizes the work of their students.”
Next was honoring students for their academic work. This started with awarding student Mohammed Ashraf for his video “Mercury Rising: A Queen Tribute,” which had recently won in the Music Video category at the ninth annual MoziMotion, an iPhone Film Festival in the Netherlands. Mohammed was then awarded once again for his contribution to the film “Kararat Fasela”
The event also honored students for their graduation projects, with a group from each major getting recognized for “Best Graduation Projects”. The Head of each major was asked to give a few words before the certificates were handed out. “Al Noba” graduation project film won best graduation project from the Television Journalism major, while “Over Medication” took first place from The Integrated Marketing Communication major, and “Men Ba3d el Youm da” winning first place from Radio Television. Other certificates that were handed out included awards for stand out graduation projects, Camera Techniques and Best TA (teaching assistant).
After all the certificates were handed out, all the students were asked on stage to take a group photo with the university professors and assistants. The students were then given a small break where they were provided with food and drinks and then went back in to watch the winning film. The event then came to an end at 4:30 p.m.

Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Awards Second Master’s Degree in Comparative Media Studies

Graduate student Nada Osama obtained her master’s degree in Comparative Media Studies, on Saturday, October 30, 2021.  Osama was the second student to be awarded a master’s degree since the program’s inception in Fall 2018.   The Defense Committee included her two supervisors, Professor Mohamed Hossam, MIU and  Professor Khaled Salah El-Din, Cairo University,  Dr. Nihal Abdelrahman, Chair of the Department of Mass Communication at  Misr International University,  and Professor  Amany Fahmy, Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University.

Osama’s thesis topic was about “The Effect of Bullies’ Portrayals in Pop Culture Movies on Facebook Cyber-Bullying: A Comparative study of Bullies’ Representation in Egyptian versus American Pop Culture Movies”.

The Defense Committee praised the importance of the topic and commended the candidate for her efforts. 

Hypertext Short Stories and Interactive Fiction – Al-Alsun Students’ Graduation Projects

Al-Alsun senior students presented their graduation projects on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020 about “Hypertext Short Stories and Interactive Fiction”. Dr. Mustafa Riad and Dr. Fayrouz Hassan were the members of the external examiners committee evaluating students’ work.

The project was an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Faculty of Al-Alsun & Mass Communication and the Faculty of Computer Science as students were introduced to a choice-based experience through interactive hypertext fiction as a genre of electronic literature. The main idea of the project was writing an adapted short story in the form of hypertext across several webpages, using a multi-linear or a non-linear format.

One of the main objectives of this project was to use technology in teaching literature to enhance the learning experience. It also aimed at exposing students to the postmodern applications that could enrich their skills. Through this project, students were able to experience different types of postmodern plot, create their own websites, create hyperlinks and use 3D techniques.

Dr. Riad and Dr. Hassan praised the project’s interdisciplinary nature and students’ genuine product while assuring the importance of the interdisciplinary approach in encouraging creativity.

Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism Delivers Hands-On Online Training to Al-Alsun Students amid Covid19 Precautionary Measures

Al-Alsun students successfully ended their 2020 summer field-training program at Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism. For the first time, Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism offers a Distance Learning Training Program designed to provide the best hands-on experience to our students amid the precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of Covid19 pandemic.

“As usual, Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism was delighted to organize 8 training courses for 106 students of the Department of Al-Alsun, Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication, MIU, this summer,” said Mr. Sameh Abdullah, Ahram  Online Managing Editor, and  Director of Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism

Al-Alsun students were able to enroll in 3 different training programs, at the Institute, namely, Online Journalism, Journalistic Translation and the Ahram Online internship. Mr. Sameh Abdullah, Ahram Online Managing Editor and Director of Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism, Mr. Hany Assal, Al-Ahram Managing Editor and Head of Foreign News Desk, and Ms. Dina Samak, Deputy Chief ‎Editor and Egypt Editor of Ahram Online conducted the training through pre-recorded lectures and live video conferences, as well as practical assignments for the trainees. “We were able to do it successfully via distance learning, and that was one reason to feel proud, but to have 50 Al-Alsun students asking to learn Online Journalism, that was a big surprise and an indication that MIU students are different and not like others,” Mr. Abdullah explained. “Yes, Yes, you are different, your students are different and that is why we are delighted to work with you anytime,” he added.

For the first time, the MCM Department will be hosting Professor Chang Wan “Isaac” Woo, Assistant Professor of Public Relations in the School of Communication Studies, James Madison University. Professor Woo’s two-week visit, 14-25 February 2015, is intended to introduce the public relations students at MIU to the modern trends in public relations campaigns, new media PR and image restoration strategies.



Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication to hold First Annual Conference on Translation and Media

The Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication will hold its first annual conference on Wednesday May 11, 2016.  The conference titled “Translation Problems and their Impact upon the Media Content in Egypt,” will take place in room 00A from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The conference will start with introductions from the Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication, Dr. Hamdy Hassan, followed by a word from University President Dr. Mohamed Shebl El Komy.  The rest of the conference is divided into three main sessions with speeches from a variety of top Egyptian translation and media experts.

The first session, titled “The Crisis of Translation in Egypt,” will discuss the state of translation in Egypt and address current issues.  The second session titled, “Foreign Affairs and Translation in Egyptian Media” will tackle the relationship between lingual skills and translation and foreign affairs in Egyptian media.  The final session, titled “Translation of Media Content,” will outline current issues with media translation and their impact on culture.
