In collaboration with the university council, the Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee at the Faculty of Dentistry arranged a trip on January 25, 2022 to Al Safa elderly home care
The purpose of the visit was to raise the awareness of the employees and the elderly residents regarding COVID-19 virus to promote means of personal protection and of prevention of transmission of infection to others. The visit also aimed to raise dental health awareness through a detailed presentation using visual aids. The session also covered the proper tooth brushing technique. Visual aids were included using a simplified PowerPoint presentation. MIU committee staff invited the employees and residents of the care home to visit MIU Dental Clinics Complex to receive the required dental care free of charge. In addition, they were offered transportation to and from the Home by MIU buses to receive the treatment needed. Al Safa elderly home administration had been contacted prior to the visit to determine any further needs the home could require. All the needs demanded by the home were purchased and given during the visit to the employees and residents, including personal blankets and food supplies.
By the end of the visit, questionnaires were distributed on the employees of the elderly home to rank their satisfaction with the visit in terms of the scientific content, giveaways and further needs. Educational materials together with packs of toothpastes, tooth brushes, alcohol and face masks were distributed on both the employees and the elderly residents.
