Misr International University Best Partner for Education First Initiative!

The Education First Foundation held the final ceremony for the “Egypt Schools 2020” competition on Saturday, 5 September 2020. Prof. Hossam Badrawy, Chairman of Education First Advisory Committee, Dr. Salma Al-Bakri, Chairman of Education First Board, Dr. Mahmoud Hamza, Education First Executive Manager and Dr. Reda Hegazy, Deputy Minister of Education and Technical Education for Teachers Affairs attended the ceremony.

The ceremony was held to honor the distinguished teachers and the winning schools in the competition, as well as and the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication, at Misr International University as the best partner for the Hundred Graduate Project as part of Education First Initiative.

During the ceremony, Dr. Salma Al-Bakri praised the close cooperation between the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication Administration and the institution to provide field training to senior students. Dr. Salam also pointed out to the distinguished academic and professional skills of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication students.

Associate Professor Maha Fathi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication for Academic & Student Affairs, received the Shield of Honor on behalf of MIU.

It is worth noting that Education First is a civil society organization that supports public education in Egypt, as it trained 25,000 teachers. The Hundred Graduate Project aims to train young graduates on modern teaching methods and prepare them to teach at international and private schools. Over the past two years, 51 students from Al-Alsun Department participated in this project. Prof. Hossam Badrawy, delivered an impassioned speech expressing his admiration for what Education First is doing for developing teachers’ skills and school performance. He also highlighted the importance of integrating human values ​​in the educational process, as the goal of education is to help every student become a righteous person and achieve academic success.

Comparative Media Studies Program First MA Thesis Defense!

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication congratulates Nouran Moheb El Rafie the first MA Comparative Media Studies Program graduate! El Rafei defended her thesis entitled “The Impact of Social Media Influencers on Instagram versus Traditional Celebrities on Young Egyptians’ Attitudes towards Brands” on May 29, 2021 to earn her MA degree in comparative media studies.  The examination panel included the candidate’s supervisors, Dr. Nagwa El Gazzar, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, MIU, and Prof. Hebatulla El Semary, Chair, Radio and Television Department, Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo university, and examiners, Prof. Mohamed Hossam El Din Ismail,  Professor of Journalism, Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, MIU and Prof. Dalia Abdullah,  Chair, Advertising and PR Department, Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo university.  The panel praised the work of the candidate, noting the importance of the contribution of the thesis in creating a new model to measure the effectiveness of social media influencers in the marketing of brands.

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Hosts 1st Graduate Student Conference

The Department of Mass Communication of the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication hosted its 1st graduate student conference on “Comparative Media Studies” on Saturday, November 30, 2019.
The conference provided an interdisciplinary platform for scholarly interaction and professional development for PhD and MA students. The conference offered emerging scholars the opportunity to discuss and exchange research ideas and innovative theoretical insights with participants from different backgrounds.
Conference topics included: globalization of communication activities and national identity, media economics, media and society, media convergence, and new trends in interdisciplinary theories. The conference attracted a big number of participants from different public and private universities.

زيارة مستشفى سرطان الأطفال 57357

 

قام وفد من طلاب قسم الاعلام بجامعة مصر الدولية بزيارة مستشفى سرطان الأطفال 57357 في يوم الأربعاء الموافق 27 سبتمبر 2017 ضمن اليوم الدراسي وذلك لإهداء الأطفال نتاج مشاريعهم الفردية المقدمة في ربيع 2017. وقُدمت تلك المشاريع ضمن مادة مبادئ التصميم تحت إشراف أستاذ مساعد علياء عبد السلام ومدرس مساعد يارا يسري، وتضمنت المشاريع عمل تصاميم لـ 4 منتجات ترويجية (Mug, Coaster, T-shirt, Calendar) تدعم الأطفال المرضى معنوياً. وتكون الوفد من 25 طالباً وطالبة برفقة أستاذ مساعد علياء عبد السلام ومجموعة من الهيئة المعاونة والذين استقبلوا بالترحاب لدى وصولهم المستشفى. حيث قام أحد ممثلي المستشفى بمرافقة الوفد في جولة سريعة بالمستشفى مع شرح تاريخ المستشفى العريق قبل مقابلة الوفد للأطفال وإهدائهم المشاريع التي رسمت ابتسامة على وجوههم. كما اسمتعوا بقضاء وقت ممتع مع الأطفال في الرسم و التلوين ورواية القصص بالإضافة إلى شراء منتجات قام بصنعها الاطفال والتي يتم التبرع بقيمتها لصالح المستشفى. ولم تكن هذه الزيارة الأولى من نوعها حيث تهتم جامعة مصر الدولية بتشجيع الطلاب وإشراكهم الدائم في الخدمات المجتمعية وذلك إيماناً منها على أهمية تنشئة أجيال على وعي بتحديات المجتمع ومتطلباته وله دور إيجابي فعال في تغيره للأفضل.

iTranslate Career Development Seminar Hosted by the Center of Excellence in Translation and Localization!

The Center of Excellence in Translation and Localization of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication hosted a seminar entitled “Becoming a Translator” on Monday March 2, 2020 for Al-Alsun and Mass Communication senior students and alumni. 

The seminar was delivered by Mr. Mo’men Rawi, Project Manager at iTranslate Group, and aimed to give prospective translators a holistic overview of the long journey of becoming a professional translator and how to get geared up for this journey.

Mr. Rawi focused on the qualities of a professional translator, and skills needed for the job. He introduced the attendees to the pros & cons of working as a freelancer or an in-house translator and gave them advice on the different websites offering online freelance opportunities for translators. Mr. Rawi concluded the seminar by calling upon the students and alumni to seize every opportunity for development, and continuous learning.

Attendees were actively engaged in discussions and enthusiastically asked about the criteria for hiring translators and the available opportunities in the market. 

The seminar marks a new step for the cooperation between the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication and iTranslate Group, as both organizations have concluded a protocol of cooperation to offer students training and continuous education opportunities.

MCM Hosts Public Lecture on “Traditional Media in a Digital World”

The department of Mass Communication and the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication hosted a public lecture by the Head of the BBC Cairo Office Mrs. Safaa Faisal on December 12, 2018. The lecture was entitled “Traditional Media in a Digital World: Challenges and Opportunities.”
Mrs. Faisal discussed the role of the British Broadcasting Corporation as a public service broadcaster. She also talked about the challenges facing the BBC in the current news environment and use of the latest technologies to overcome them.
The purpose of the lecture was to address the problems traditional media face as they compete with modern technologies, streaming services, social media and the internet in general.

Al-Alsun Translation Workshop

In collaboration with Arabize Translation Company, Misr International University’s Al-Alsun Department organized a two-day workshop entitled “Localization in Translation”. The workshop was given by Mr. Omar Aly, Language Development Manager at Arabize, to 14 staff members on Wednesday 30/3/2016 and Thursday 31/3/2016, as well as 52 students on Sunday 3/4/2016 and Monday 4/4/2016.

Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Organizes Online Workshops on Enhancing Professional and Soft Skills!

With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing in-person work and professional gatherings to a halt, the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, in cooperation with Egypt’s Society for Culture and Development, organized a series of online workshops on the improvement of professional and soft skills from December 23- 30, 2020.  These workshops, organized by Professor Hanan Kilany, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Development, are part of the Faculty’s virtual engagement with the community.  Two workshops on writing resumes and improving interview and presentation skills for young university graduates were led by Dr. Ingy Emara, Associate Professor of Linguistics in Al Alsun Department.  In addition, the Mass Communication Department Teaching Assistants Habiba Ayman, Nehal Walid and Amina El Sardy conducted two workshops on creating and managing a Facebook page and digital marketing. Each workshop was followed by application practicums. The participants expressed their appreciation to the trainers and to MIU for organizing these useful workshops as well as their request for more training workshops in the future.

Al Alsun and Mass Communication Students Visit the House of Representatives

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication organized a field trip to the Egyptian House of Representatives on December 8, 2019.
The trip was organized as a complementary activity to the curriculum of the political science course, under the supervision of Political Science Professor Hoda Awad.
Participating students watched a documentary movie on the history of the Legislative Council in Egypt and attended a live session of parliament.
