The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Hosts Fun Day for Children with Special Needs!

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication hosted a fun day for children with special needs from the Right to Live Association (RTLA) on Monday, March 9, 2020.  The Faculty organized a number of activities with the aim of focusing on empowering people with special needs and promoting awareness of their rights.  MIU students engaged with RTLA kids in a number of activities, including games, sports, and art creation.   The day ended perfectly with a short play performed by a group of RTLA children that the Dean of the Faculty and other Faculty members and students watched. 

New Training Internship with iTranslate for Al-Alsun Seniors

The Department of Al-Alsun is glad to announce a new Summer Field Training Program in collaboration with iTranslate.
iTranslate Group is an ISO certified translation and linguistic service provider, the first Egyptian joint stock company in the field in the local market. iTranslate has been providing translation and localization services for 10 years.
A total of 44 Al-Alsun Seniors were divided into 3 groups, each group had an internship for two weeks at the company, along the period from the 7th of July 2019 to the 2nd of September 2019. Students were able to practice translation using up-to-date CAT tools, got acquainted with the environment of the work place and became more familiar with the different roles and duties of professional translators.
Hopefully, this internship will mark a long cooperation with iTranslate, in the future for the benefit of Al-Alsun students and the Egyptian translation and localization market.

Mass Communication Training Program for Graduates and Undergraduates “SOLO Journalist and Mobile Journalism”

Misr International University’s Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, Mass Communication Department organized a certified training course for students specialized in Radio and Television and Journalism majors with the cooperation of Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism.  This training was held from the 13th to the 17th of August, 2016 at Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism with the aim of training the attendees on how to search sources, write, edit, and implement reports using applications on cameras and mobiles. Each trainee received an accredited certificate from Al Ahram Regional Institute for Journalism

Caritas-Egypt Conducts a Seminar for Al-Alsun Students

The Department of Al-Alsun hosted Dr. Madline Azmy, Director of Caritas – City Egypt, for an orientation session on November, 12th, 2019. The session was attended by fourth year Al-Alsun students as a requirement for the Topics in Linguistics course. The session covered the linguistic profile of children with special needs, the intervention activities to improve their language skills as well as the programs Caritas offers to qualify those interested to pursue a career in serving people with special needs.

Ain Shams University Delivers Corpus Linguistics Lecture at MIU

Dr. Rania Al-Sabbagh, Faculty of Al Alsun at Ain Shams University, delivered a lecture on Corpus Linguistics to the MIU Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication on December 12.

Al-Sabbagh gave attendees background information on the Corpus Linguistics technique of study in addition to Corpora, the software tool used with this technique.  She made a reference to the different types of corpus such as the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA).

MIU Mass Communication Conducts Community Service Field Trip to Fayoum

MIU Mass Communication students went on a community service field trip to Fayoum on November 30, 2016.  The Photojournalism students accompanied the Qafelet El Khair Association which is organized by Vodafone in cooperation with the Rotary club.

The field trip began with a visit to Dimishkin Primary School and an observation of the school’s act ivies, included the presence of an audio convoy which was conducting tests on student hearing.

The students then moved to El Shaheed Abdel Azim Primary School where the Well Spring group conducted a variety of entertainment activities with the students.

The tour also included a visit to rural ranches to see vocational training, including handcraft workshops, and illiteracy classes.  The trip concluded with a visit to the Road to Development Association to observe its community service activities.

جوائز المسابقة القومية للحفاظ على مياه الشرب لجامعة مصر الدولية

 

حصدت ثمانى طالبات من قسم الاعلام بجامعة مصر الدولية المركزين الثانى والثالث فى “المسابقة القومية الإبداعية لإعداد حملة توعية عامة للحفاظ على مياه الشرب”، وذلك فى الاحتفال الذى حضره السفير إيفان سوركوش، رئيس وفد الاتحاد الأوروبي بمصر، وزباستيان ليش، رئيس التعاون الفني الألماني بالسفارة الألمانية، وبرونو مايس، ممثل منظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة (يونيسف) بمصر وممثل البنك الأوروبي لإعادة الأعمار والتنمية EBRD.
وقد قام المهندس ممدوح رسلان رئيس مجلس إدارة الشركة القابضة لمياه الشرب والصرف الصحي بتوزيع الجوائز على الطلاب فى احتفال الشركة بالطلبة المشاركين يوم الخميس 27 ابريل، بعدما قامت الفرق الطلابية الثلاث من جامعة مصر الدولية والجامعة الأمريكية الذين تأهلوا للمرحلة الأخيرة من المسابقة بعرض حملات التوعية التي قاموا بتصميمها على الحضور من لجنة التحكيم من ممثلي خمس من كبرى وكالات الدعاية والإعلان وعمداء كليات الإعلام في الجامعات المشاركة في المسابقة، ومجموعة مختارة من الإعلاميين.
وقال برونو مايس، ممثل اليونيسف بمصر، “إن الحصول على المياه وتوافر المرافق الصحية هو حق لكل طفل للحفاظ على حياته وصحته ونموه. ويعد رفع الوعي بالحفاظ على المياه وترشيد استهلاكها أمر في غاية الأهمية لمواجهة مخاطر ندرة المياه. ونحن نؤمن بقدرة الشباب على تغيير السلوكيات الخاطئة في مجتمعاتهم وأيضاً على توعية الأجيال القادمة”.
وقد حصل طلاب الجامعة الأمريكية على المركز الأول، وحصلت طالبات قسم الإعلام بجامعة مصر الدولية على المركزين الثانى والثالث، كما حصلت الفرقة الثالثة المشاركة من جامعة مصر الدولية على جائزة خاصة عن أفكار وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي. كما تم منح جوائز خاصة لبقية الفرق المشاركة تقديراً للأفكار الفريدة الأخرى التي قدمتها والتي اشتملت على تصاميم للإعلانات المطبوعة، وإعلانات الطرق، والشعارات، والمسلسلات الكرتونية.
” المسابقة كانت تجربة رائعة ، اختبرنا فيها كيفية تطبيق ما تعلمناه واردنا ان نقدم أفكارنا لخدمة المجتمع، كما استفدنا من الجولات الميدانية وورش العمل التى قدمتها لنا الشركة القابضة” صرحت ساندى طارق من فريق هارمونى الفائز بالمركز الثانى.
وخلال المرحلة الأولى من المسابقة قدّم 15 فريقاً طلابياً أفكارهم الأولية للحملة، وتم اختيار 11 فريقاً منهم من قبل لجنة التحكيم. وكان قسم الاعلام بجامعة مصر الدولية هو الوحيد على مستوى الجمهورية الذى شاركت منه ثلاث فرق وجميعها تميزت بحرفيتها وتميز أفكارها واعتماد الطالبات على مهاراتهن ومعارفهن الاتى اكتسبنها من دراستهن لعلوم الإعلام بجامعة مصر الدولية.
شاركت الفرق الأحد عشر في أسبوع تعريفي مكثف نظمته الشركة القابضة؛ تمكنت خلاله من تعزيز معرفتهم بالقطاع المائي والتحديات التي تواجهه والمواضيع المتعلقة بسوء استخدام المياه لتطوير رسائل تشجيعية لترشيد استهلاك مياه الشرب.
وكانت الشركة القابضة لمياه الشرب والصرف الصحي قد أطلقت المسابقة في نوفمبر الماضي برعاية السيد رئيس الوزراء ومن خلال التعاون بين وزاراتي الإسكان والمرافق والمجتمعات العمرانية والتعليم العالي لتشجيع الطلبة على تصميم رسائل توعويه لمجابهة السلوكيات الخاطئة ودعم ترشيد المياه.

Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Raises Awareness of Sustainable Water Consumption among Primary School Children!

In its efforts to raise awareness of sustainable water consumption among kids, the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication made a visit to Mogama’a Alexandria primary school in Al Salam City on March 6, 2020. The visit was organized by the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication and Misr Foundation for Health and Sustainable Development with the objective of educating children about water issues and taking action to conserve water.  This is in line with the Faculty’s support of Egypt Vision 2030, which reflects the country’s long-term strategic plan to achieve sustainable development principles in all areas. 

Prof. Hanan Kilany, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Development, gave a talk on the importance of saving water and improving water use efficiency to ensure sustainability.  Dr. Enjy Farouk, Associate Professor in the Department of Al Alsun, led a workshop for the school’s English teachers on how to use educational materials about water conservation.  Aya El Shazly, a Mass Communication teaching assistant gave a short  presentation on water scarcity as one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues and Egypt’s efforts for water conservation.  At the end of the visit, water awareness sign boards and short stories in English, prepared by Al Alsun and Mass Communication students were presented to the school library. 

MCM Completes Graduation Projects

The Mass Communication department completed the spring graduation projects during the last week of June 2019.
MCM held graduation projects for all three programs: Radio & Television, Integrated Marketing Communication and Electronic & Print Journalism.
The Radio and Television program held 26 group arbitrations under the supervision of MCM Professor of Practice Mohamed Saraya and co-supervisors Kamel Abdel-Fattah, Soha Al-Nakkash, and Samar Bashat. Graduation projects consisted of documentary films on a variety of topics serving NGOs and the community as a whole.
The Integrated Marketing Communication program held 14 group arbitrations under the supervision of MCM Head of Department and IMC program coordinator Dr. Amany Bassyouny. Co-supervisors included Halim Abu-Seif, Sherine Zaklama, Hanan Ghaly and Dalia El Abd. Students created extensive marketing, advertising and public relations campaign on a variety of topics.
The Print & Electronic Journalism program conducted five group arbitrations under the supervision of Maha Shahba. Projects consisted of a website, an investigative piece or feature story, an opinion article, a photostory, a podcast and a news documentary.
All groups were evaluated by esteemed external arbitrators who are experts in their respective fields.

Electronic & Print Journalism
– A project on environmental crises in Egypt, such as sea pollution, plastic usage, recycling, etc. Collaborated with international NGO, HEPCA which aims at protecting and conserving the terrestrial and marine ecology of the red sea.
– Entrepreneurships – A project focused on reporting about entrepreneurs and new trends in small business in Egypt. Collaborated with Alnafeza institution, a startup with trains the deaf and mute to manufacture paper products out of rice straw so they can profit form selling these products.
– Egypt 2030 – A project dedicated to reporting on Egypt’s 2030 plan, which focus on education health and economy.
– Nubia – A project dedicated to reporting exclusively on Egyptian Nubian ethnic minority, including news, people, tourism and challenges in accessing basic services such as water, sewage and electricity due to their isolation on an island in Southern Egypt.
– Egyptian Archaeology – a project dedicated to journalistic reporting on Egyptian archaeological sites and monuments that are being restored or renovated. Alexandria was the key city featured in the project due to its importance in the Egyptian heritage.

MA program in Comparative Media Studies receives accreditation

The Master of Arts in Comparative Media Studies offered by the Department of Mass Communication of the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication was accredited by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education on May 6.

The Ministry’s accreditation certifies that this master’s degree offered by MIU has equivalency status with similar degrees offered by Egyptian universities, with all the rights and privileges that entails. 

The MA in Comparative Media Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed to respond to the rapid changes in local and international media.  The program examines new trends in the media industry through focusing on media convergence, constitutions of media conglomerates and media ownership. 

The program prepares specialists capable of developing innovative research in comparative media that would cope with the fast developments in the media industry and communication technology.  It also provides media professionals with the knowledge and skills to develop local, regional and international media industry.

The MCM master’s degree is a minimum 2-year program starting each October, with early admission starting in January. The program is currently in its third year.
