MCM Hosts Journalist in Research Guest Lecture

The Mass Communication department hosted Youm7 journalist Mrs. Mona Diaa in a guest lecture for Specialized Research Seminar on December 1, 2018.
Diaa gave a lecture on research methods for feature stories for students in the Journalism major. She discussed how to build connections with sources, source-etiquette, the challenges of the news industry, and the methods of writing well-researched feature stories.
The lecture was open to all Mass Communication students, but targeted students in Print & Electronic Journalism. The lecture was followed by a Question and Answers session with the guest lecturer. Journalism students in Specialized Research Seminar also conducted in-class exercises with the course instructor.

The 3rd Interdisciplinary Research Forum

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication organized its 3rd Interdisciplinary Research Forum on November 18, 2019. The objective of the Forum is to encourage interdisciplinary research collaboration and promote discussion and exchange of views among Faculty members. Speakers included Prof. Rizk Saad, Dr. Aliaa Abdel Salam, and Dr. Enjy Farouk. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion.

MCM Students Present Graduation Projects

Mass Communication seniors presented their graduation projects for the majors of Radio & Television, Integrated Marketing Communication and Print & Electronic Journalism during the last week of June and early July, 2018.
Students of RTV, IMC and JOR have been creating and producing their projects since January, 2018. The students produced their projects in groups and presented them to committees consisting of external examiners and project supervisors. Committees were organized by major.
The Integrated Marketing Communication committees consisted of communication campaigns from five groups focusing on social awareness. Projects included social media catfishing and identify theft, the importance of sex education for children, post-mortem organ donation, menopause, and the importance of Vitamin D for females.
The Radio and Television and Journalism committees consisted of a number of short films and news productions. Topics included hospice care and the importance of toys for unfortunately children.
All graduation projects aim at serving the Egyptian community, specifically targeting youth, Egyptian parents, and middle-aged females. Successful projects are donated to the relevant organizations.

Freshman II Students Shine in the Annual Speech Delivery Competition

As part of the English Department attempt to encourage creative writing and presentation skills, a Speech Delivery Competition was held for Freshman II students during the last week of Fall 17 semester, ending in the finals that ran on Wednesday December 20, 2017. Ten students were nominated for the finals, of which the following three were chosen as “The Best Oration Winners”:

– Dahab Amr Mahmoud: Mass Communication
– Nesma Wael: Al Alsun
– Oumneya Khaled: Business Administration

The Department of Al Alsun Hosts Caritas-City Egypt!

The Department of Al-Alsun of the Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication hosted Dr. Madline Azmy, Director of Caritas – City Egypt, for an orientation session on November 12, 2019. The session was attended by Al Alsun senior students as a requirement for the Psycholinguistics course. The session covered the linguistic profile of children with special needs, the intervention activities to improve their language skills, as well as the programs Caritas offers to qualify those interested to pursue a career in serving people with special needs.

Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication hosts Fulbright Commission Team

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication hosted an information session for the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt on November 14, 2018.
The Fulbright Program provides grant opportunities for university graduates, master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral candidates to study and conduct research in the US.
The Fulbright program consultants introduced the different programs and a Q & A session followed.

Al-Alsun Community Service Graduation Projects

Al-Alsun Department engages students with their community through their graduation projects in the purpose of raising their awareness about its issues and needs. In Fall 2017, Al-Alsun students’ graduation project was writing entertaining and constructive children stories in English and translating them into Arabic for children in public schools and orphans. In Spring 2018, students’ project was Developing Curricula for Middle School Students in Public Schools. The main objectives of these projects were integrating students’ projects with community service and charity while enriching their learning experience.

MCM Hosts Spring’s Second Social Media Guest Lecture

The Mass Communication department invited Mr. Mohamed El Bassiouny to speak at the semester’s second Introduction to Social Media guest lecture on May 7, 2018.
Bassiouny is the CEO and Cofounder of Tayarah Media House. He provided students with his experience in the field of social media production houses. The lecture provided insights into the challenges of the field and advice on how to overcome them. Finally, it provided case studies and examples of best practices from Tayarah Media House.
Tayarah Media House was founded in by Mohamed El Bassiouni and Ramez Youssef. The agency works with Brand Owners and Media Agencies to create and produce digital video content on a budget, from ideas, storyboards, script writing to visuals.
All Mass Communication students were invited to the lecture, which was followed by a Question and Answer session. The guest lecture and Q & A session received positive feedback form students and professors.

MIU’s MCM Conducts Social Media Guest Lecture

Misr International University’s Mass Communication department hosted Ms. Gehad Hussein in a guest lecture on Social Media on March 5, 2018.
The guest lecture was conducted to provide all Mass Communication students with the experience of a practitioner in the field of journalism. The lecture provided an understanding of social media journalism and the best practices of the digital journalism industry in Egypt.
Gehad Hussein is the Managing Editor of Business Forward at the American University in Cairo. She is an experienced journalist who writes news and features on Egypt’s economic status, financial developments, as well as profiles on start-ups and entrepreneurships. Hussein is also a journalism instructor with a Master’s degree in political science.
The lecture was attended by all Mass Communication students, with mandatory attendance for Journalism and Introduction to Social Media students. The lecture was followed by a lively discussion in Question and Answer session.

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication Honours Visually Impaired Students!

Coping with visual impairment is a challenge!  Support for students with visual impairments contributes to their academic learning and enhances their self-esteem and social acceptance. The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication organized a visit to the Model Center for the Care of the Blind in Al-Zaytoun district on July 14, 2021 to honour visually impaired students for their academic achievement. 

Professor Hanan Kilani, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environment Development, along with Dr. Ingy Emara, Associate Professor of Linguistics,  and Teaching Assistant Nehal Walid celebrated the success of outstanding students at the Center, offering them talking calculators and blind sticks. They also provided CDs including taped  units of the social studies, Arabic and English curricula, mp3 recorders, in addition to 20 braille paper reams.
