Mass Communication Department Celebrates its Achievement Day!

The Mass Communication Department of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication held the annual Achievement Day on December 17, 2020 to celebrate top students and their accomplishments.

The day started with a welcome message from the Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Nihal Abdelrahman.    Dr. Nihal then awarded students with the highest grade point averages or the most remarkable individual achievements. Maryam Sayed was awarded for representing Egypt in the largest conference of Arab media leaders.     Mohamed Khalifa was awarded for being chosen as “Media Ambassador” in the State Ministry of Information.

A number of Mass Communication students were also awarded for their group projects. These projects included the “Homeless Children Project” that was submitted and used by The Ministry of Social Solidarity.  The best graduation projects from each major were presented in the form of short documentaries and movie trailers, providing the audience with a glimpse of each of these remarkable works.

د. هدى عوض و د. منى عبد الرحمن يوم 15 أكتوبر 2018 وأعقبت الندوة مناقشة حول عراقة التجربة البرلمانية المصرية وتعزيز دور البرلمان في الحياة السياسية.

كلية الالسن والاعلام تواصل شراكتها لخدمة المجتمع مع مؤسسة فودافون لتنمية المجتمع للعام الثالث علي التوالي

 

شاركت كلية الالسن والاعلام في توقيع اتفاقية شراكة جديدة مع مؤسسة فودافون لتنمية المجتمع لتقديم التوعية الاجتماعية والثقافية والتعليمية لمشروع مدارس العلم قوة لتطوير ١٠٠ مدرسة ابتدائية في محافظات الفيوم وسوهاج والأقصر.
وسوف تساهم كلية الالسن والاعلام في المشروع بتقديم ندوات توعيه لاهالي الطلاب ودورات في تدريس اللغة الانجليزية لمدرسي اللغة الانجليزية وحملة دعاءية كاملة .‎

Al-Alsun Students’ Field Training at Language & International Schools

During Fall 2019 (F19), the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication (Al-Alsun Department) has collaborated with several national and international schools in Egypt, including Dr. Nermien Ismail Language Schools (NIS), Orouba Language Schools, Misr American College, and New Generation International Schools to offer 159 training opportunities for fourth year students. Students shadowed experienced teachers in their classes and helped carry out class activities. Head teachers and supervisors at the assigned schools applauded Al-Alsun students for their commitment and enthusiasm. Al-Alsun students were encouraged to apply for a job interview upon their graduation at New Generation International Schools and Dr. Nermien Ismail Language Schools (NIS). Successful candidates were appointed at the two schools as co-teachers for KG and elementary stages.

The Center of Excellence in Translation and Localization Organizes a 5-Day Workshop on Subtitling

The Center of Excellence in Translation and Localization of the Faculty of Al -Alsun and Mass Communication organized a five-day training workshop on “Subtitling” from August 7 – 11, 2021.  The workshop was led by Dr. Sama Dawood, Dr. Hanan Sharaf, and Ms. Maha Ashraf of Al Alsun Department.  Topics included the rules of subtitling, subtitling software, and subtitling challenges.  The trainees also worked on a final group project.  The workshop  hosted Mr. Mustafa Sotohy, Netflix translator and quality control expert, who talked about the required skills of a subtitler and how to pursue a career in subtitling.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Faculty of Al Alsun & Mass Communication and MENA!

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, represented by the Dean, Dr. Laila Galal Rizk, and the Middle East News Agency (MENA), represented by the Board Chairman, Mr. Ali Hassan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on August 9, 2021 at MENA premises.  This signing formalizes the ongoing and continuous cooperation between the two institutions in the area of training.  Dr. Maha Fathy, Vice Dean for Education and Students’ Affairs and Chair of Al Alsun Department, Dr. Nagwa El Gazzar, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Sama Dawood, Associate Professor of Translation and Dr. Hanan Sharaf, Assistant Professor of Linguistics, attended the signing ceremony of the MOU, together with Dr. Hala Murad, Director of Training at MENA.   After signing the MOU, the Faculty delegation shared in the distribution of certificates to MIU students who successfully completed training in legal translation and translation for international organizations. 

Al-Alsun’s 1st International Conference on “Recent Trends in Translation Technology”

The Department of Al-Alsun of the Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication organized its 1st international conference on “Recent Trends in Translation Technology,” on April 6-7, 2019.

The conference provided a forum for the discussion of the impact of recent technologies on the translation profession by bringing together scholars, practitioners and translation industry professionals. Professor Lynne Bowker of the University of Ottawa in Canada and Professor Mikel Forcada of the University of Alicant in Spain delivered the two keynote talks.

The conference covered a number of topics including computer-aided translation (CAT) tools, localization tools, translation memory software, online translation, multimedia, hypermedia and audiovisual translations, computer-aided interpreting (CAI), quality assurance tools, and translator education and training in translation technology. In addition to the plenary talks, the conference offered paper and panel presentations, workshops, and an exhibition of commercial products. The Faculty of Al-Alsun and Mass Communication also launched its Center of Excellence in Translation and Localization which aims at enhancing capacity building through training in translation technologies and promoting research in the fields of translation and localization.

MCM Organizes Convoy to Schools of Underprivileged Students

MIU’s Mass Communication department organized a convoy to underprivileged children of the Red Crescent Schools on December 24, 2018.
MCM Head of Department Dr. Amany Bassyouny joined the convoy, which consisted of students from the MCM course of Principles of Design, under the supervision of course instructor. The purpose of the convoy was for MCM students to donate the design projects produced during the course to the underprivileged children.
The MCM students spent quality time with the children and told them stories after donating the gifts. Staff members provided the children with sweets and snacks.

Overview of Egypt’s Social History IV: Mental Health

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication organized a one-day seminar on “Mental Health” on Nov. 25; a fourth in a series of seminars on the history and culture of Egypt. The seminar depicted three different perspectives on the way mental health issues have been dealt with throughout the Egyptian history. The first presentation was given by Dr. Yasser Abdel-Maboud entitled “The History of the Tulunid Bimaristan in Islamic Egypt”, followed by a second session by Dr. Sabry El-Adl titled “The Development of Mental Health Hospitals in Egypt in the 19th century”. Finally, a third presentation was given by Dr. Nashaat Hussein to discuss the current problems associated with face-book addiction in modern times and tilted: “Facebook Usage and Mental Health”. The seminar was attended by the Faculty staff members and students.
