Located where the Rhone and Durance Rivers meet in the southern French region of Provence, Avignon is a walled city made up of a medieval labyrinth of squares and cobblestone streets and the University's history goes back to 1303.

Avignon University is a public institution of higher education covering all disciplines, with the exception of medicine and health. The university is spread over nearly 50,000 square meters in the magnificent setting of Avignon’s historic center; this leads to an exceptional quality of life as well as outstanding conditions of study and integration. The University of Avignon enrolls approximately 7,000 students, ten percent of whom come from outside France. There are 330 research professors and 220 administrative and technical staff members working at the University.
