MIUers Vote for Abbas and Esseily
MIU Students voted online for the first time for their most preferred superstars
Hisham Abbass and Mohammed El Essily, to highlight the Spring Festival this April
2008, which took place just following the midterm exams.
According to PR member, Riham Ahmed, “The event comes right after the midterms,
so that students can have some fun after the exam pressure.” This year all students
could attend the party, as each student was offered an additional free invitation
to bring a friend or relative.
The students’ voting was taking place since the beginning of the Spring Semester
through an online poll on MIU’s website. The voting was taking place for an entire
week, and then it was automatically updated through the IT Department.
Students logged in normally into the MIU website, and chose between two categories:
renowned singers and younger singers. The renowned team included Hakim, Hisham Abbas,
Mostafa Amar and Amer Monib. The younger singers/bands, however, were WAMA music
crew, Mahmoud El Essily, Hossam Habib and West El Balad band.
MIU students’ clubs helped in organizing the party this year. They held agreements
with the singers, ordered the invitations and gave each student an extra invitation.
Moreover, they coordinated with the security to avoid any problems or clashes. In
specific, SIFE club and others have undertaken those tasks.
The Festival, sponsored by Costa Coffee, Cinnabon, Pepsi and Vodafone, began in
the early afternoon and included many entertaining activities. It was wrapped up
with the concerts of Hisham Abbas and El Esseily whose distinctive music and songs
offered much entertainment for students.
