Al-Alsun Hosts Talk on Animal Studies, Big Data in Literature Classrooms

The Faculty of Al Alsun and Mass Communication, in collaboration with the Center for Developing English Language Teaching (CDELT), Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University, organized a talk on “Digital Humanities: Teaching Literature through Animal Studies and Big Data” on Nov. 6 at the premises of Misr International University.
Jeanne Dubino, Professor of English and Global Studies at Appalachian State University, and Andrew Smyth, Professor and Chair of the English Department at Southern Connecticut State University, USA, explored how the current “Animal Turn” provides new ways of both reading and teaching literature.
Dubino and Smyth also discussed how Animal Studies, in combination with Big Data, can motivate students to appreciate the ways literature uses
language to see and understand literary texts in new ways.
