Academic Advising
Each student is assigned an academic advisor, a student must show up during the advising period and set his schedule with his/her academic advisor, otherwise the schedule will be done by the academic advisor and the student will not be allowed to make any adjustments on it. Students should maintain regular contact with their assigned advisors to ensure fulfillment of university and departmental requirements and to remain aware of any changes in programs and requirements. An academic advisor assists in the following:
Selection of courses each semester.
Approval of the student’s academic load and add/drop procedures.
Follow up on the student’s academic progress.
Follow up cases of probation & suspended students.
Each student is required to achieve a GPA not less than 2.00.
If a student fails in achieving a GPA of 2.00, he/she will be placed on probation, taking a light load of 12 credit hours or 4 courses. Concerning probation students enrolled in the faculty of Pharmacy or Engineering, they can register in 14 credit hours, maximum.
The probation period provides the student with an opportunity to correct the deficiency in his GPA, but that period may last for no more than two regular semesters. Failure to achieve the required standard by the end of the probation period turns the student to an AUDITOR.
In case of being an AUDITOR, the student will be allowed to register in only two courses. These two courses are not counted in the student’s GPA. After achieving the required grades the student will regain the chance to improve his GPA within three consecutive semesters
A student is not allowed to increase his academic load (i.e. take an overload) until spending ONE academic year and achieving a GPA of 3.00 or above
- Faculties of : Al-Alsun , Mass Communication , Business Administration, Computer science
Overload (More than 18 Credit Hours)
- Faculties of : Pharmacy, Engineering Overload (More than 22 Credit Hours)
In case of repeating a failed course the maximum grade a student can achieve is C. However, this helps the student raise his/her GPA more than taking a new course & achieving an A- grade in.
Repeating a failed course helps the student raise his/her GPA.
Students are not allowed to withdraw from a semester or two; the only approved withdrawal is the final withdrawal, which must be signed by the student’s guardian.
A student must show up during the advising period and set his/her schedule with his/her academic advisor, otherwise the academic advisor will do the schedule and the student will not be allowed to make any adjustments on it.
