Faculty of Oral & Dental Medicine
Activity – El-Obour City
On Tuesday July 28th, 2015, the Community Service and Environmental Affairs Committee organized a field trip to the Health Unit at the first district of El-Obour City under the umbrella of The Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine. The trip was organized with the approval of the Ministry of Health. Staff members, interns, students and Community Dental Care (CDC) club members participated in this event.
The field trip included a treatment and prevention campaign in the form of diagnosis, fissure sealant application, extraction and simple restorations. Cases that needed further treatment were given referral letters to the MIU dental clinic complex.
The trip also included an awareness campaign to improve patients’ oral hygiene knowledge and condition. The campaign included presentations, posters, brochures as well as live sessions about tooth brushing techniques. Educational materials and packs of tooth paste and tooth brushes were distributed to all patients.
A questionnaire was administered to the patients, the administrative staff in the health facility as well as all participants in the field trip to evaluate the event. The event was beneficial to the students and members of the CDC being exposed to the outside community. The patients and administrative staff of the health facility considered it a successful event. They recommended the organization of more field trips to the health facility and other health care units.
