Prof. Joseph DiPiro, PharmD, Executive Dean and Professor, College of Pharmacy, Medical University of South Carolina visited MIU Faculty of Pharmacy from February 26th- March 1st, 2012. During his visit, Dr Joesph DiPiro lectured senior pharmacy students on gastrointestinal diseases; Inflammatory Bowel Disease and peptic ulcer and their pharmacotherapeutic approaches. In a meeting with Pharmacy Practice Specialists and the TAs, he gave his advice and recommendations in several issues related to “Preceptorship “, MIU newly developed concept in pharmacy practice. He also visited MIU Dental Clinics and advised on the potential role of Pharmacy Practice Specialist in providing drug interaction screening services and patient counseling sessions as well as other clinical pharmacy services.
Dr. DiPirio held two professional counseling sessions; one with Clinical Pharmacy team from International Medical Center to discuss their clinical achievements. The other session was during a visit to Assalam Hospital in Maadi where the Clinical Pharmacy team presented their pharmaceutical services to the patients.
Furthermore, Dr. DiPiro participated in the 5th continuous education workshop, “The Pharmacist’s Role in Achieving Health Outcomes”, which was organized as part of Continuing Professional Pharmacy Development Program, on March 1st, 2012. His presentation was entitled “Clinical Pharmacy Achieving Health Outcomes”.
